| The Human Resources: Recruiting, Hiring, and Staffing Network is not currently active and cannot accept new posts | A suggestion for everyone | Views: 714 | Nov 20, 2008 6:53 am | | A suggestion for everyone | # | Tom Adam | | The replies to some of the posts made here, and to the one regarding an HR tool PowerPoint presentation is the best example, has led me to offer up a suggestion to everyone.
When your reply to someone's post is along the lines of "Please send me _______. My e-mail address is _________", it will probably be to your considerable advantage to send that via a PM and not make it a public posting. The reason is quite simple: by posting your e-mail address openly you leave yourself vulnerable to bots and spiders being used by spammers to harvest e-mail addresses. The result is either more spam or malware coming your way, or perhaps someone spoofing your e-mail address for their own unscrupulous purposes.
While this is a moderated forum and all posts have to be approved by me before getting posted, I'm not going to start rejecting replies that still show the replier's e-mail address. If someone wants to risk their exposure that's their decision and no one here needs a babysitter (I hope!). However, I do think following my suggestion will reduce your risks.
